September 19, 2007

Today we learned to combine two sentences using the word "and". We also journaled about "Something scary that happened to you". The students will have an opportunity to share their writing tomorrow in groups of two. Part of your child's homework for tomorrow will be to think of ideas for the writing prompt "If I were in charge of the world". I showed the students a preview for "Kid Nation" premiering on CBS tonight at 8:00 and I read to them a poem written by Judith Viorst titled "if I were in charge of the world. Your children will begin working on writing using the 6+1 writing model. Stage one is the idea phase. Tomorrow they will be given 10 minutes to write down as many ideas as they can relating to our topic. On Friday, they will organize the ideas and next week they will continue working on this project. I can't wait for them to show you their finished work! Please don't forget to review their spelling words with them, test is on Friday. Also, if you still receive a Wednesday envelope, I need them back in class by Monday morning.
